Kombinat aluminijuma Podgorica (Aluminum Plant Podgorica) is majority owned and managed by the Central European Aluminum Company (CEAC) and is Montenegro’s biggest industrial company, generating 51% of its exports. KAP produces 120,000 tons of aluminum each year and, including the staff at its processing plants, employees more than 2,500 people.
KAP is a major player in the national economy and a reliable business partner of major Montenegrin companies. These include Bauxite Mines, Electric Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Jugopetrol, the Port of Bar, Railways of Montenegro and Telekom.
Investing in modernization and environmental protection
CEAC has a five-year modernization program for KAP’s production facilities, which is part of the shares purchase agreement. The program provides €75 million for:
* Technical investments – €55 million * Enviromental investments – €20 million
By the end of the investment period in 2010, the company’s goal is to comply fully with the environmental regulations of Montenegro.
Successful completion of the investment program will increase annual output of aluminum from the current 120,000 tons to 156,000 tons, without increasing the number of ’pots’ used in the process. The modernization will also stablize production cycles and increase annual production of alumina to 400,000 tons.
Furthermore, the strategy calls for diversification of the KAP product portfolio and eventual conversion of the entire output into high value-added alloys for the south and central-European markets.
In cooperation with IBM consultant team, CEAC introduced an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system at KAP, in order to modernize the company’s business processes and ensure international standards are applied. The system will reflect best practice from the world’s metal industry. ... more |
